Dr. Jimmy Reyes

Dr. Jimmy Reyes
As Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Iowa Community HUB, Dr. Jimmy A. Reyes brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in advanced practice nursing, public health education, health policy, and research focused on underserved Iowa communities. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing, an Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner certification, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Additionally, he earned a Ph.D. in Gerontology from Concordia University Chicago.
Dr. Reyes’s research is grounded in developing culturally centered, family-based educational programs that enhance diabetes self-management. His work prioritizes nutrition and physical activity for Latino populations served by Federally Qualified Health Centers. Through these initiatives, Dr. Reyes has contributed to establishing culturally sensitive protocols for diabetes care within Iowa’s Latino community. Furthermore, he has collaborated with healthcare professionals across the state, championing improved care quality for Latino and other underserved communities affected by chronic health conditions.

Kari Sullivan

Kari Sullivan
Kari has worked as a dynamic sales and operational leader with strong executive management strategies and GL operations for 20 years. She has a deep understanding of credit, service and consumer lending. She has spent her career building strategic plans, maximizing and adjusting based on data analytics and business intelligence. Kari has collaborated extensively with other community leaders and key business partners to activate company mission and community outreach efforts.
Kari now proudly owns Valley West Uniforms and loves to serve the medical community in and around the Des Moines area. Her husband Jeff and Kari have 3 children, Jevin 19, Graedan 17 and Fayth 13 who keep them busy by traveling and coaching basketball.

Dr. Jen Groos

Dr. Jennifer Groos
Dr. Groos is a board-certified pediatrician with 16 years of experience. She earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed a pediatrics residency at University of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital in Madison, WI.
While at Blank Children’s Hospital, she founded the Healthy Kids Program before joining Primary Health Care at the BEC clinic this summer. Dr. Groos is active in community and legislative advocacy about topics related to healthy eating and active living. She currently serves as Lead Faculty for the National Childhood Obesity in Primary Care (COPC) Quality Improvement project led by the American Academy of Pediatrics Institute on Healthy Childhood Weight (IHCW). Dr. Groos also leads the 5-2-1-0 Health Care Program in Iowa. She serves as the co-chair for the COACH network (childhood obesity advisor) for the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Obesity. She is a past-president of the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, chair of the chapter committee on legislation, and founder and chair of the chapter committee on obesity. In 2018, she received the Iowa Medical Society Physician Community Service Award for her statewide child health promotion work.

Allison Moses

Allison Moses
With 20 years of progressive leadership in healthcare, Allison Moses is a results-driven nurse leader dedicated to improving patient care, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. She currently leads the Integrated Health Team at the Iowa Primary Care Association, where she oversees clinical practice transformation initiatives for Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Oral Health, and Revenue Cycle Management across Iowa’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
With a strong background in change management and process improvement, Allison is passionate about optimizing healthcare systems to enhance patient care and operational efficiency, driving meaningful change in the industry. Throughout her career, she has led numerous initiatives that have resulted in measurable enhancements to both patient outcomes and organizational processes. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Executive Nurse Leadership from Chamberlain College of Nursing and is committed to continuing her work in advancing healthcare through collaboration and innovation. Her expertise in quality improvement and regulatory compliance will be invaluable in supporting the HUB’s mission to enhance clinic-community linkages.

Carlos Garcia Rodriguez

Carlos Garcia Rodriguez
Carlos currently works as the Regional Director for the central Iowa region at Proteus, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides farm and agricultural workers with access to education, training, and affordable healthcare.
Before joining Proteus and the nonprofit sector, Carlos worked across different industries and served as an ESL and Spanish teacher for Chinese speakers. He earned his BBA and MBA in Taiwan, focusing his studies on intercultural communication and integrating projects across different cultures and languages.
With his strong leadership in nonprofit program development and his rich multicultural background, Carlos will play a pivotal role in guiding the HUB’s efforts to expand access to healthcare and workforce training. His expertise will help bridge gaps in services for underserved populations, fostering inclusive programs that address both immediate needs and long-term community well-being.

Haylee ("Hayl") Bergeland

Hayl Bergeland
Haylee, or “Hayl” as her friends and colleagues call her, is a dedicated professional with a Master of Science degree in Gerontology, Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution, Graduate Certificate in Public Health and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Hayl brings a comprehensive and holistic understanding of public health and human behavior and the biopsychosocial factors that influence health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
In addition to academic credentials, Hayl is a certified Community Resource Specialist, Victim Advocate, Grief Support Specialist, and Clinical Health Coach. With these certifications, Hayl is deeply committed to providing support and connection to individuals facing complex challenges, specializing in addressing health disparities through community-resource navigation for individuals living with dementia as well as youth and adults navigating the mental health system. Hayl’s current role is in mental health promotion, specifically working on a public health grant focused on community-based suicide prevention. She is also an Adjunct Graduate Professor at Kansas State University (Global Campus), where she instructs graduate students in the Department of Health and Human Services, and she serves as a Certified Canine Crisis Response Team (alongside her canine partner) for the Iowa Disaster Behavioral Health Response Team. Hayl’s vast mental health expertise will help the HUB enhance access to vital mental health resources.

Bobbretta M. Brewton

Bobbretta M. Brewton
Bobbretta M. Brewton is a dedicated advocate for family equity and community outreach in Polk County, Iowa, with a career spanning education, nonprofit leadership, and public health. With extensive experience in program development, grant writing, and volunteer service, she has held key roles at organizations such as Primary Health Care, Inc., Children and Families of Iowa, and Des Moines Public Schools. A committed AmeriCorps and VISTA volunteer, she has led initiatives in food security, housing, and minority health advocacy.
Recognized for her leadership and service, Bobbretta has received numerous accolades, including the Iowa Commission on Volunteers Hall of Fame Award and the Business Record Publications Sages Over Seventy honor. She holds degrees in education, business, and public health from Northeast Missouri State, Drake University, Upper Iowa University, and the University of Iowa. She will help strengthen the HUB’s community outreach creating a sustainable framework for chronic disease education.
