The Iowa Community HUB recipient of the Washington Freeman Peck Award
The Iowa Community HUB was honored to be named the recipient of the 2023 Iowa Medical Society’s Washington Freeman Peck Award. This award is given annually by the Iowa Medical Society to honor a lay organization for its outstanding contributions to public health. The HUB was recognized for its diligent work to connect healthcare partners and resources across the community to enhance care coordination, care quality, and health outcomes for patients and community members.
Our work started back in 2017 as a grassroots effort working alongside community partners promoting health and addressing health-related social needs in communities within central Iowa. The vision slowly manifested over the years into a statewide, network of partners coming together to expand evidence-based health promotion programs and services in Iowa with an emphasis on reaching underserved populations. Today, Iowa Community HUB is now a statewide, nonprofit community care hub working to connect Iowans with meaningful evidence-based programs that improve access to social care services with a focus on reducing health disparities for priority populations experiencing greater obstacles to health.
It is truly an honor to be recognized by the Iowa Medical Society for our contributions in community health. This award truly embodies what we set out to do so many years ago and will inspire us to continue to make an impact in our great state of Iowa.
